JOB DESCRIPTION
As a Technical Animator, your role is to be the bridge between Animator and Gameplay Programmers. You will own the technical aspects of the gameplay animation production, including ensuring that we use the best techniques and practices available in the industry while meeting delivery requirements, collaborating with the Animation team, Gameplay programmers and Tech Animators from other Ubisoft studios.
You will support, plan and execute building realization systems, debugging issues and ensuring we adopt the best practices while maintaining the quality of the realizations.
Responsibilities:
- Support the integration of animations in the game engine.
- Validate animations to adhere to technical restrictions.
- Creation of animation state machines in the game engine.
- Create, maintain, test, and debug animation tools and pipelines.
- Create rigs and skinning for simple props and integrate into game engine.
- Collaborate with various job families to build compelling gameplay animation systems as the go to person for all tech animation questions and needs.
- Adapt and maintain animation pipeline to be used in production in accordance with the project's technical constraints. Understands all areas of the pipeline and can track tasks and problems for all phases of production.
- Follows technical directives and delivers technical support to the team, thereby helping to solve bugs.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in videogame technical animation or any other relevant experience.
- Understands and can execute the rigging, animating, and integration pipeline.
- Strong knowledge of animation state machines, gameplay mechanics and animations, in-engine IK.
- Good understanding and technical knowledge of commercial Game Engines (Unity, Unreal, etc.)
- Experience Programming with Python and C# (Maxscript is a plus), can script in Motionbuilder/GameEngine/3dsMax.
- Understands the motion capture pipeline
- Experience using animation software such as Motion Builder, 3ds Max or Maya.
- Basic understanding of fundamental animation and rigging principles.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with animators and programmers.
