The next TTS phase will begin on the afternoon of Thursday, July 20th. In this week’s test, we started activating access for the PC TTS to players that own the game on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. As we are processing a significant number of activations, we will not be able to include all players in this wave. For those of you who have been selected, you will not receive an email, but instead a Rainbow Six Siege Technical Test Server tile will appear in your Uplay PC client, downloaded here. We hope that you enjoy taking part in the testing experience, and are able to provide us with valuable feedback!
In terms of what we are working on, we will begin our public testing of peer to peer removal and the implementation of dedicated servers for Terrorist Hunt.
These changes that are being implemented are fairly major, so the timeline of this TTS phase will differ from those in the past. We will be testing different aspects of the upcoming features at various points throughout the next two days. You can find a breakdown per day below!
Thursday
On Thursday, only Terrorist Hunt will be available, and it will be hosted on dedicated servers for the first time.
Friday
We will be continuing our tests on Terrorist Hunt on Friday morning. The main focus of the Friday morning TTS phase is testing the kill switches that we have put in place. These will allow us to quickly revert Terrorist Hunt back to being hosted through the peer to peer system if necessary. Once the kill switch is activated, Terrorist Hunt matches will end if the host leaves, and NAT types will come back into play when forming a group.
The other test we are running on Friday morning is the transfer of parties and voice chat from the peer to peer system to dedicated servers. As discussed during the Operation Health panel during Operation Velvet Shell, we will be removing peer to peer voice and party features from the game. This means that you will have an easier time connecting to your friends and forming parties, as Moderate and Strict NAT will no longer be a hindrance. Additionally, this will provide a more fluid VOIP experience to facilitate communication with your teammates, especially after one of them Fuze’s the hostage. Please be aware that this tech is still in an Alpha state, and we are expecting there to be voice chat connection issues. We are looking specifically for voice chat feedback on the overall quality, as well as if you encounter any audio glitches while playing with an open mic while running a recording device.
During the Casual testing sessions on Friday, July 21st, we will be focused on testing a few backend updates. The only change that you may notice is the removal of lag compensation for melee. This will prevent low ping players from dying to a melee attack performed from a sizeable distance. We are actively looking for feedback on this change, so please let us know how the melee feels! Keep in mind, high ping players will feel as if their melee swings are not hitting.
For Friday afternoon, we will be testing the kill switches that revert the peer to peer removal for parties and voice chat. This means that players will once again be impacted the NAT types when attempting to form a group.
