Season 8 Challenger League Week 2 Recap

Challenger League continued this week with league leaders across Europe, North America and Latin America begin to step up.

Europe (EU)

As always, the first Challenger League games of the week come from the European region on Monday evening. DeathroW had the hardest week as they played against the only two unbeaten teams in the league, ENCE eSports and Team Empire, both of which defeated the ex-Pro League team of DeathroW in straightforward matches. ENCE took down the French team 6-2 while, despite a strong defensive performance, DeathroW fell to Empire 6-4.

The full results, as seen below, also show a somewhat surprising display from 3DMAX, a team that lost both of their opening matches last week, as they defeated EnD Gaming and TrainHard eSports to lift themselves up to third place in the standings.

Team Empire v Overtime eSports (6-2)

ENCE eSports v DeathroW (6-2)

T3H Esports v TrainHard eSports (6-3)

3DMAX v EnD Gaming (6-2)

Team Empire v DeathroW (6-4)

ENCE eSports v Overtime eSports (6-3)

EnD Gaming v T3h Esports (5-5)

3DMAX v TrainHard eSports (6-4)

North America (NA)

The North American league saw a rather impressive showing by Elephant Gang as they defeated one of this season’s favorite, Disrupt Gaming, 6-0. The victory largely came down to the sheer fragging power of Ghxst and kanine who managed 17 kills between them in just the six rounds. The Nomads also continued their unbeaten run, dropping only two points against Team SiNister in an extremely tight matchup on Border.

The full results also have FLAWLESS GG gaining four points across their two matches, which push them up to the fifth position, just below Team SiNister - the only team to beat them so far this season.

Disrupt Gaming v Goober Squad (6-4)

Elephant Gang v FLAWLESS GG (5-5)

Team SiNister v The Nomads (5-5)

Excelerate Gaming v Miner Esports (6-2)

FLAWLESS GG v Goober Squad (6-3)

Elephant Gang v Disrupt Gaming (6-0)

The Nomads v Excelerate Gaming (6-2)

Team SiNister v Miner Esports (5-5)

Latin America (LATAM)

Latin America played their Challenger League games on Saturday evening. It’s important to keep in mind that, Latin American Challenger League teams play in a slightly different format than the other regions. Rather than playing two different teams every week, each team plays two best-of-one matches against the same team.

YeaH Gaming hoped to gain their first victory of the season this week against Guidance Gaming. However, despite taking the lead in the second game, they only managed to gain a single point out of a possible six. This means Guidance Gaming, a team that picked up Twister (Ninjas in Pyjamas’ previous coach) as an analyst this weekend, goes to the top of the leaderboard with the only unbeaten record in the league so far.

The full results also show WP Gaming picking up their first point of the season; unfortunately however, they could not take home a victory after being up 4-1 on Bank before Cartel E-sports came back to force a draw.

2Kill Gaming v N/A ORG TEAM (5-5, 6-4)

Santos e-Sports v ReD DevilS e-Sports (6-4, 4-6)

YeaH Gaming v Guidance Gaming (5-5, 2-6)

Cartel E-sports v WP Gaming (6-2, 5-5)

Next week we have huge matchups in all three regions: Europe will see Team Empire play against ENCE eSports, North America has The Nomads against Disrupt Gaming, and in Latin America Guidance Gaming will play Cartel E-sports. All these games could be key in deciding which teams take the automatic promotion spot to Season 9 of Pro League, so you won’t want to miss them!
