Season 8 Challenger League Week 7 Recap

This week, we concluded Season 8 of Challenger League’s regular season, with the top four teams from each region qualifying for the playoffs next week.

Europe (EU)

With Team Empire and ENCE eSports guaranteeing their playoff spot two weeks ago the final playday saw four teams battle it out for the two remaining spots. While Overtime eSport and 3DMAX both needed just a few points in their games against the bottom-placed teams of T3H Esports and DeathroW, surprise defeats by both teams in both games slashed their playoff hopes and dropped Overtime right down into the eighth position.

Meanwhile, victories by both EnD Gaming and TrainHard eSport guaranteed their spots in the playoffs by each gaining three points across their matches; TrainHard from a victory against EnD Gaming while EnD through a dominating 6-2 victory over ENCE eSports on Border.

North America (NA)

In North America, meanwhile, victories by Vicious Gaming over Disrupt Gaming and The Nomads allowed them to jump into the top four alongside the favourites of Disrupt and Elephant Gang. This comes as quite a surprise as the roster only secured nine points in the first half of the season but managed three wins in their final four games to jump up the leaderboard.

A similar story occurred with Excelerate Gaming who, after beginning the season with a 0-6 sweep defeat against Disrupt Gaming, took until the second half of the season to really get in gear. Victories over Goober Squad and Team SiNister this week means they have lost just a single game in their last seven matches pushing them up to a third place finish.

Miner Esports vs the Nomads (6-4)

Despite sitting in third place as of last week, 2Kill Gaming failed to make playoffs after they gained just one point in their two games against ReD DevilS e-Sports; this result allowed three teams to jump ahead of 2Kill pushing them down into the sixth position.

YeaH Gaming gained four points, pushing them up into a third-place finish, while six points from Santos e-Sports and one point from Cartel E-sports led to head-to-head round difference between the two teams being deployed as a tiebreaker. As Santos has won 8-6 rounds against Cartel way back on day one of the league they take the fourth playoff spot. This means YeaH Gaming and Santos e-Sports will join Guidance Gaming and ReD DevilS e-Sports in the playoffs next week.

ReD DevilS e-Sports vs 2Kill Gaming (5-5, 6-2)

YeaH Gaming vs Cartel E-sports (6-4, 5-5)

Next week we have the playoff games between the top four teams in each region.
