PRO LEAGUE RECAP: WEEK 12

As Season 8 of the Pro League comes to an end, the games have been heating up, with LAN spots open for grabs and relegation looming. Week 12 was no different, but if you missed the action, here’s a refresher of what went down.

North America (NA):

Rogue kicked things off with a close 6-4 victory over mousesports (mouz) to get their first win since the Paris Major. Playing much better than they had during the past three weeks, they managed to arrest their slide and claim three valuable points. Next, Spacestation Gaming (SSG) defeated Obey Alliance in a swift 6-0 to pile on the misery for the latter, while SK Gaming kept themselves going with a 6-3 win over Noble esports. Finally, Evil Geniuses (EG) closed things out with a 6-2 win over Cloud9 after dropping three points last week.

These results mean that SK Gaming holds steady in 1st-place, with EG just a hair behind in 2nd place. On the other hand, Rogue rose to 4th place, while the bottom four of mouz, Cloud9 (C9), Obey, and Noble saw no movements in standings after each suffered losses.

This week, Noble and C9 go head-to-head in a match that could see the former relegated if they lose. Rogue also takes on Obey in a match up that will be closely watched by Noble and C9 for the impact it could have on their relegation battle, while the top two of SK and EG will fight it out in a match that is almost sure to get SSG closer to a LAN spot.

Latin America (LATAM):

Ninjas in Pyjamas (NiP) recorded their first back-to-back win this week to bring their total win tally up to three as they beat BootKamp Gaming 6-2. Team Liquid, though, dropped valuable points once more as they drew 5-5 with Black Dragons (BD), while FaZe Clan recorded yet another victory -- this time a 6-2 against Team oNe. In the final game of the night, Immortals were held by paiN Gaming to a 5-5 draw and will rue the two lost points they could have otherwise secured.

Thankfully for them, Liquid’s loss saw both maintain position in 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Lower down the table, though, nothing changed save for paiN equalling Team oNe, and NiP tying BD on points, with the latter two now a point away from safety.

Don’t miss the Week 12 games, however, where much could change when NiP dukes it out with paiN, after BD takes on Team oNe. With both teams extremely close to escaping the relegation zone, both matches will have much significance and should not be missed.

Europe (EU):

Last to play, EU was not to be left behind in entertainment value. The night began with G2 Esports and Mock-it Esports in a surprising draw, and was then followed by Chaos all but guaranteeing their safety with a 6-2 win over the beleaguered Team Vitality. Team Secret was unfortunately unable to capitalise on Mock-it’s match against G2 Esports, and drew with PENTA Sports. Finally, the inter-French battle between Millenium and Supremacy ended 6-3 in favour of the former, thereby making Supremacy the first team to be auto-relegated across all three regions.

Despite G2 Esports dropping two points, their position at the top of the table is safe. Team Secret, unfortunately, stays in 3rd place behind Mock-it Esports, with Millenium a point behind in 4th place. Slightly further adrift is PENTA Sports, with Chaos and Vitality in 6th and 7th place respectively, with the latter almost certain to be forced to play in the relegations.

Next week, Chaos could seal their safety if they manage to defeat Millenium, or if Team Vitality gets any result aside from a win against Supremacy. At the top of the table, though, Secret and Mock-it duke it out in what will almost certainly decide the second team to follow G2 Esports to the Pro League Finals in Rio de Janeiro.
