Building the World of Riders Republic

"Welcome back Riders! Last time we showed you how to get around our massive multiplayer playground! This time, we’re ready to tell you more about what you could come across while traversing it.

America’s most iconic National Parks

In Riders Republic, you’ll be able to go across America’s most iconic National Parks, including Mammoth Mountain, Yosemite, Grand Teton, Sequoia Park, Bryce Canyon, Zion and Canyonlands.

We chose these locations because of their majesty, wonder, size, uniqueness and beauty. But of course, we also wanted locations where players could express themselves best via outdoor sports! From ice to snow, from dirt to dust, each terrain will challenge you according to its specificities.

We are very happy with the setting we chose, and we even implemented beauty spots all over the world, as well as memorable landmarks to truly give you a sense of what visiting these places feels like. We sure hope they will give you a sense of the wow moments you can feel when discovering Mother Nature’s treasures.

Thinking the map through

To create this massive playground, we had twenty regions in mind, but selected these seven parks and started using altimetric data to recreate their geology.

Making boundaries and orientations match together was a challenge, mostly because these regions aren’t actually adjacent to each other. They don’t have the same altitude, morphology, visual appearance, type of stone or vegetation. We also wanted to organize them based on how players would discover and navigate them.

Unique identities

When we were happy with the geology, we worked on the overall feel. For each park, we studied the geomorphology. This means the soil, the types of rocks, the reasons why rocks and fragments appear in such shapes and volumes. Because each region has different climates, we precisely defined the areas in which snow, ice, mud, sand and stone could be found. We felt that it was very important to master these environments so riders could take full advantage of the different feels of each region and enjoy them to their fullest!

We then populated each region with its own unique flora and biome for further immersion. If you’re lucky and cautious enough, you may even encounter some wildlife! However, don’t expect them to hang around for long – as wild animals, they tend to shy away from people.

Instilling fun

Once we created the natural world, we implemented humanised areas to add to the free roaming and to make sure you would have fun with dedicated sports. We integrated racing or trick tracks, as well as urban areas such as snow parks.
With all these combined, each slope, soil type, vegetation and density should help heighten the sensations of the sport used. Some of the spots were specifically designed for you to attempt and pull off cool and (almost) impossible stunts out of them. We can’t wait for you to give them a shot!

Oh, and you might notice some abandoned relics all over the world… if you’re curious, we’d suggest you get closer to see what they’re all about. Who knows, they might hold a thing a two for you.

And don’t forget, while you’re riding freely across the map , you will be surrounded by other players, riding in real time around you. You can expect some regions to be more densely populated than others: Grand Teton is high in the mountains and you should encounter less players there than you would in Mammoth Mountain.

We hope this gives you a better look into how we built our massive multiplayer playground, and we can’t wait for you to get your hands on Riders Republic to experience it for yourself! In the meantime, don’t forget to check out our Instagram to join the fun and join our Official Discord to get in on the conversation."
