Season 8 Finals: Esport Panel Summary

Match & League Format Update

This previous season brought many changes to our esports structure, with the implementation of the league system, to the new six-month format, and more. For Season 9, we’re making minor adjustments to the system, in order to make our league more competitive, as well as provide more competitive Siege action for our fans and players.

For the Pro League regular season, matches will remain as best of ones. However, teams will now play up to six rounds on each side, with up to twelve possible rounds being played during a match. The first team to win seven rounds wins the map. If a score of 6-6 occurs, we have a tie. As usual, the Pro League Season finals will be played in a best of three series. If a team ties at LAN, we will go to overtime. Our goal is always to keep the league competitive, and keep a consistent format across online and offline play.

Pilot Program Update

Next up, we have an update to the pilot program. At the Paris Major, we reveled the teams’ charms and weapon skins. Today, we’re excited to reveal the teams’ battledress uniforms and headgear that will be releasing with Operation Wind Bastion. This is the best way to support your favorite teams, with 30% of the revenue going directly to the organizations.

Six Invitational 2019 Update

We’re happy to give another update on the Six Invitational 2019. Out of the 16 teams that will make it to the SI, nine teams have already qualified. G2 was the first team to qualify through being the Champions of the Six Major Paris. Cloud9 was the second team to qualify by taking home the trophy at DreamHack Montreal. Next, each team that qualified for the Season 8 Pro League Finals will also gain a seat at the Six Invitational 2019. Since G2 won both the Six Major Pairs and top seed in their region, we will be redistributing the EU Pro League spot to another EU online qualifier. The final offline qualifying spot will be reserved for the winners of DreamHack Winter. Finally, contenders are left with six remaining opportunities to qualify, through six online qualifiers (one for APAC, one for NA, and two for LATAM and EU).

Six Invitational Qualifier Information

The format for the open qualifiers for the Six Invitational has changed slightly this year. The first phase will be a swiss system tournament. After this, the best teams will move onto a double elimination bracket, with the unqualified Challenger League and Pro League teams will be waiting for them! Only the absolute best teams will make it to the Six Invitational.

As you know, 9% of the revenue from the golden Pro League Gold Sets goes directly into the prize pool for the Six Invitational, and today, we are happy to announce that we have reached a $1,000,000 prize pool for this event.
