In order to continue the growth of our Rainbow Six competitive scene, we are proud to announce the qualification format of the Six Major! France will host the first edition of the Six Major, which will take place in different locations across the globe every year with a similar format. The Six Major Paris will kick off on August 13th for an intense week of competition. Sixteen of the best teams across four different regions (Europe, North America, Latin America and Asia-Pacific) will meet in Paris to compete in the biggest Rainbow Six competition held in Europe to date, complete with a total prize pool of $350,000!
Among the teams qualified through past competitions, the Major will also run open qualifiers to help the rise of new talents.
Slot attribution
The Six Major Paris qualification format is now revealed and will be permanent for all Six Major events to come, with 16 teams qualified across four regions (Europe, North America, Latin America and Asia-Pacific), as such:
- Previous Six Invitational winner
- 8 Pro League finalist teams from previous Season (2 per region)
- 5 Open Qualifiers, one per region (4) and a fifth slot being attributed based on last Pro League Season Final performance
- 1 previous Dreamhack winner
- 1 Host-country team qualified
With this Six Major qualification format announced, we already know quite a few teams qualified to the Six Major Paris:
- PENTA Sports (Europe) – as Six Invitational 2018 winner
- Evil Geniuses (US), Rogue (US), Team Liquid (Brazil), FaZe Clan (Brazil), Fnatic (Australia), NORA-Rengo (Japan), Millenium (France) – as Pro League Season 7 Finalists
Here are the remaining slots to be filled:
- Open Qualifiers: there will be exceptionally 6 slots instead of 5 due to PENTA Sports (Europe) both winning the Six Invitational 2018 and qualifying for the Pro League Season 7 Finals. Based on the results at these Season 7 Finals in Atlantic City, fifth and sixth open qualifiers slots will be attributed to Europe and Latin-America.
- The winner of Dreamhack Valencia, as the latest Dreamhack ahead of the Major.
- The winner of Dreamhack Valencia, as the latest Dreamhack ahead of the Major.
- The winner of the French Cup, for the Host-Country slot.
Open qualifiers
Step 1 (open tournament):
- Unlimited number of teams
- If there are more than 64 teams signing up per region: 16 teams will qualify for the closed tournament (see step 2 below)
- If there are less than 64 teams signing up per region: 8 teams will qualify for the closed tournament (see step 2 below)
Step 2 (closed tournament):
- 8 or 16 teams with the highest number of points from the ladder and 8 teams from Challenger League will make it to the closed tournament.
- The format of the tournament will be a Swiss system where each competitor meets one-to-one in each round and are paired in every match.
Step 3 (double elimination tournament):
- The top ten teams from the closed tournament will take part in the Final stage of the Open Qualifier.
- A double elimination bracket will be used in the closed qualifier with all matches being played in a best-of-3 format.
- Winner of each closed qualifier will take a spot at the Six Major, except a region which has an extra spot based on last Pro League Finals performances.
Main event format
Like the Six Invitational, the sixteen teams are split into four groups of four teams. The top two teams from each groups will advance to the playoff round to play a Best-of-3. The two most performing teams will compete during the Grand Final and play a Best-of-5.
