It has long been an unwritten rule that in the world of professional Rainbow Six Siege, a player’s kill to death ratio doesn’t always mean that much
They may be playing a support operator whose job is to back up their team. They may be playing positions that are rarely attacked or they may simply be there to gain info and try for an early pickoff. All of which can lead to a poor K/D but still result in them having a big impact in the game. However, there are also times when the stats are impossible to avoid because they simply tell the story too well. Throughout the season 7 Pro League Final, André "Nesk" Oliveira was the top fragger on Team Liquid in all three of their maps. That isn’t all, he was also the top fragger in the entire competition, with a massive 81 kills. Considering he also played one less map than all of the PENTA players, that makes it even more impressive.
How can a human be as good as Nesk at Siege?
We need to dig deep into his DNA.— Ghassan Finge (@MiloshTheMedic) May 20, 2018
So the stats do not lie, when it came to finding kills Nesk was unstoppable. It wasn’t just easy kills that came his way, time and time again, he found himself in difficult situations and would come out on top. Never was this more clear than in the final, where PENTA’s standing Juhani "Kantoraketti" Toivonen was on fire in map one. Every round it seemed that he managed to take down Nesk in every single battle, and Liquid were quickly dispatched 5-1. After that, Nesk stepped up, the battles between the two fraggers continued, but slowly Nesk started to gain the upper hand.
There is no doubt that this team was built around Nesk, and a lot of the strategies were about unlocking his potential, but it all worked a treat. Many people said this was a return to the old Nesk, but honestly this was even better than those old performances. There is absolutely no one in the world that can argue that Nesk is not one of the very best players in the scene. There is some tough competition at the top, but after a performance like that, he has grabbed the attention of the world and he is now the one to beat and doing that won’t be an easy task for anyone.
