Hey, dancers!
Another month has passed, summer is close to an end and we're back with a fresh Community Spotlight article for you to enjoy! As you know, this is the place where we invite our dear community members to make them sparkle under the spotlight. Today's guest? Let's give a warm welcome to beloved streamer, cosplayer and content creator: SincerelyLyn!
Lyn started playing Just Dance in the best way possible: as a freshman year in high school, playing with her friends after class and becoming obsessed with the map DARE from Just Dance 1. During college, her priorities shifted a bit (it happens to all of us!); and luckily for us, she reconnected with the game in 2017 thanks to streaming - and she stayed with us ever since!
She loves how the game brings out smiles and laughter when dancing with other people; and even if someone feels a bit embarrassed at first, or doesn't know the dance well, it doesn't matter. There's only one goal: having fun!
"I also love seeing how people interpret the coach's moves differently and add their own little style to the choreos once they feel confident too. It's very inspiring!"
It was in that same year of 2017 when Lyn joined the Twitch Just Dance community. She started streaming JD18 on "Wiggly Wednesdays", as she used to call them, just for the joy of doing some exercise and bringing some bliss to her viewers and herself. She admits she was really shy at first, and that she thought she had no sense of rhythm (the way our minds like to play with us sometimes, besties...). Despite that, she persisted and found herself two years later gaining so much confidence from dancing that she expanded her JD schedule.
"I was expressing myself with new outfits and makeup and even though I had never formally taken an actual dance class, I was proud. I've held onto this feeling for years now and it has only grown and encouraged me to post Just Dance content on my other social media platforms like YouTube and Tiktok."
As you've probably seen on her socials, Lyn not only dedicates time to slaying the choreographies: she also makes her own cosplays, dare we say with some amazing results! We asked her which her favorite one to make was, and she remembered with love her cosplay of Diamonds, which she managed to make in less than a day with things she already had at home.
"I remember staying up late drafting the waist piece design, cutting out the craft foam, hot gluing the pieces together, and then finally painting it all gold... in the end it felt really rewarding to debut my first ever Just Dance cosplay during a special fundraiser stream, and even if the colors weren't 100% accurate, I was still proud of how quickly I put it together."
As we know, she's been following the lore of Just Dance (we've been through this, yes, we do have lore). We had to ask her what her favorite story is. Her answer was one of our favorites: Grace's story in Thank U Next; she loves how the map goes through her past relationships and how she finally finds happiness with Ari from Good 4 U!
"The ending is especially cute because as Grace walks off screen, the camera pans to a locker showing pictures of Ari and Grace together. It just makes me so happy for them."
And although she would like to see more of them in the future, their story is not the one she's most eager to know more about. If there's a character she really wants about a deeper dive into, it's the talented, brilliant, amazing, show-stopping...
... DJ Grandma from DJ Got Us Fallin in Love and Rave in the Grave.
"I know she originally appeared in "Rave In The Grave" as the DJ but in that song she's alive or at least pretending to be. So, something happens that makes her a ghost, or she is both alive and dead or maybe she's a ghost pretending to be alive?! (...) And I also think that maybe she's a bit of a matchmaker too since she's the DJ in "DJ Got Us Falling In Love?" 😉
We might clear up this mystery, dancers... one day x
Of course, we always want to hear what your favorite maps and coaches are in JD, and Lyn didn't hesitate. She confesses to be a sucker for the lyrics and choreo of Hold My Hand by Jesse Glynn, and honestly, who can blame her? But if she could be a coach in a map, she would definitely be Jinx from Playground; she loves her design and her unstable and crazy character so much that she cosplayed her and made an amazing tribute alongside another well-known member of this community (and now Just Dance junior artist!): Redoo.
As you already know, we love to ask our guests what it is that they love so much about the Just Dance community, and Lyn's answer didn't disappoint. She admits to loving how crazy y'all go looking for easter eggs and references in every map and every social post we do. And, tbh, who can understand that better than us? Girl, the things we've seen...
"Sometimes they're right. Sometimes they're wrong, but regardless it's really entertaining seeing the community's creativity and theories. So, keep making those memes and lore theories!"
You heard her luvs, keep 'em coming!
Lyn has won us over with her humor, her uplifting spirit and her energy and we can't wait to see what else she has in store. For now, we'll leave you with her special message to the community which is (obviously) full of nothing but love for you:
"You guys are great! I know we all play Just Dance for different reasons; some might dance for the thrill of the competition, for fun, to create content, to exercise, hang out with friends, or maybe you're a combination of these. Just keep at it, don't judge yourself too hard, and let loose! And if you're ever feeling stuck on a song or dance move, try recording yourself and watching it back. You'd be amazed at how much progress you can make after a few tries"
Don't forget to check out her streams and awesome videos! You'll find her on Twitch, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube and Instagram.
See you in our next Community Spotlight, dancers! In the meantime, we'll be waiting for you in our TikTok, Twitter and Instagram.
