Warrior’s Den Recap – January 30

Hey Warriors,

This week, we were joined by Pascal Le Roux, For Honor's Brand Director, and Nicolas Bombray, Game Director, to discuss Year 4 overall and Y4S1!

Coming off the dark times of Season 3, the team wanted to celebrate the upcoming game anniversary as well as the community that continues to support and inspire the entire development team by bringing about a lighter mood. This season, the team is excited to take players on a journey of exciting competitive play and surprising new content. It's a year characterized by one word...

*After so many signs, all believed the end of times was nigh. Yet the earth quieten down without warning, the skies cleared and a new dawn came. *

*At long last, warriors felt hope and remembered those who once fought for peace. *

For the first time in history, the leaders of all factions gathered and agreed to cease their quarrel for a brief moment.

They signed what was called the Truce of Wyverndale.

BATTLE PASS

Introducing For Honor's Battle Pass, which will come with a free tier along with a premium version.

The Battle Pass will be in addition to the Content of the Week we normally have. It's available for all heroes, and the gear you unlock will depend on your level. You can apply your cosmetics later on as you progress with your designated hero.

Everything in the Battle Pass is purely cosmetic, and will not affect gameplay or the competitive scene (but you will look extra cool during event streams). You'll also have a roadmap of all the content that will be available from within the Battle Pass since you'll be able to see all the content available from Tier 1 to 100, even without the tiers unlocked. So hop in and check it out!

Did you start with the free Battle Pass and can't help but go for premium? Purchasing a premium pass will unlock all past tiers you already got with the free version!

FASHION UPDATE: WEAPON THEMES AND ARMOR SETS

At long last, Year 4 Season 1 introduces new armor sets! This is a time of peace in the world of For Honor, and Knights, Vikings and Samurai finally have access to the resources and time needed to create beautiful ceremonial armor variations. Meanwhile, the Wu Lin have crafted entirely new sets to enjoy!

To commemorate, the team is introducing themed colored weapons and brighter armor sets inspired by Hope to bring For Honor's fashion to the next level! More armor will be coming out throughout the year, so keep an eye out for some epic new sets!

Check out the latest weapons and armor in the video below:

COMPETITIVE UPDATE: DOMINION SERIES

We are excited to announce For Honor Dominion Series, a competitive program comprising of NA and EU teams with events spanning Year 4.

These will include a series of online PC tournaments which will culminate in a LAN/offline event – one mid-year and one at the end of the year. The year-end event will crown the overall For Honor Champions.

The program will kick off at the end of Season 1, so stay tuned soon for more details on how to participate and qualify for the finals!

Of course, even if you don’t want to participate, there will be broadcasts of the tournament to give everyone a chance to participate in the competitive scene. We will be taking a close look at everyone's feedback on the program to further improve and grow it, so make sure you stay connected.

Oh and of course…The year will include a prize pool!

Now’s the time to step up and tell your war stories. Is your team the best For Honor Dominion team? Will you be crowned the For Honor Champions? Start recruiting, start grinding, join the For Honor Trials Discord and ramp up your Dominion skills. We’re looking forward to seeing who will come out on top.

UPCOMING PATCH NOTES

As the quality of play gets higher and higher, the team is constantly looking to finely tune the competitive balance and ensure every character has a fair shot at winning. If you have feedback on the performance of certain characters, be sure to fill out the Testing Grounds feedback form.

In this patch, we're looking to help some characters with their roll/catch moves.

Also, be sure to check out the video below for a great explanation of Fuzzy Guard, a key competitive technique which lets you take advantage of a small window of opportunity where it's possible to guard against two moves at the same time. If you want to have a chance at winning the For Honor Dominion events, then this may be the technique you're looking for!

Pro-Tip: Having trouble with fuzzy guards or learning finishers? Join the For Honor Discord to learn all the finishers!

Patch notes are scheduled for launch next week, February 6th, where we'll have all details for you. Stay tuned!

NEW EMOTES

Our E3 Emote contest winner has been added to the game!

You can also pick up the Toss a Coin Emote for 3999 steel instead of the usual 7000 steel. Available until February 6th!

HOW THE FOR HONOR TEAM CREATES MINIONS

Ever wonder how a minion is borne into this world? From the sculpture to the in-game mesh and final textures, this is how they're made:

On the left is the sculpture that designers create as a framework for the final character. Once the final mesh (pictured right) is created, the designers are ready to apply textures to the model. Andrew Im, our Associate Art Director, walked us through the process and explained a bit about how this texture map helps with the final look:

From here, your minions are ready for battle!

We're excited to see all the wonderful matches to come in the official Dominion Tournaments!

We’ll see you soon for another edition of Warrior’s Den!
