Leamington Volunteers Revitalise Foundry Wood: Clearing Overgrowth and Planting Trees for a Greener Community

On Friday 22 March, our Green Committee organised a volunteering day to help Foundry Wood tidy their outdoor areas.

On a surprisingly sunny Friday in March, we started by clearing an area of overgrowth so it could be converted to a peaceful sitting area, this space is often used to host outdoor education, craft workshops and mental wellbeing sessions. The goal of these sessions is to get people outside for a while to walk and socialise, hopefully have a positive impact on participants' mental health.

As well as clearing unwanted overgrowth, there were several saplings that needed to be planted. This proved difficult as the terrain was sloped and parts of the ground were too hard to dig through, however, we found spots for each of the saplings in the end.

In addition to making a difference to our local green spaces through our hard work, we also had a fun time socialising with our colleagues in a different way, away from our desks. We're excited to revisit and see how our saplings are growing in the future.

A big shout out to Dylan Hetherington, Bradley Plokker, Dale Walsh, Lucia Vazquez Vaquero, Peter Jago, Sarah Jones, and Silvio Carrera who took part in this transformation project.
