Creative Spotlight #1 : TheKnightsStars

The Rainbow Six Community has a lot of outstandingly creative people that continue to amaze us with beautiful, funny and creative contributions. In this new series, we want to highlight some of them.

And out first pick is TheKnightsStars aka Sirius Canis!

Hello TheKnightsStars! Thank you for taking the time and answering a few questions for us!

Please introduce yourself and tell us—who are you outside of Rainbow Six Siege?

TheKnightsStars: I'm a full-time art student finishing my 4th year with a concentration in drawing. In my off time, I sing in a community choir and teach illustration to high school students.

What got you into art and when did you start?

TheKnightsStars: I've been drawing since I was young, but didn't take it seriously until around the end of high school. My best friend in elementary school sparked the interest initially, but my love of video games, classical art and anatomy ultimately inspired me to further my growth.

What is your favourite thing about art?

TheKnightsStars: It would have to be the narrative within works of art. I adore beautiful paintings and skilled technical drawings, but I love when someone's work tells an interesting story.

What’s the hardest thing about creating art?

TheKnightStars: For me, it's making sure I don't let myself get stuck doing the same thing. I always want to try to learn something new with each piece I make.

What medium do you like to use most when drawing? Tell us about your process.

TheKnightsStars: Lately, my favourites have been digital, pen & ink, and gouache! When approaching any project, I usually do some research and reference gathering. With ink and gouache, I will either start painting or drawing without sketching, or work out a sketch and work over top of it with the material. With digital, I will sketch and then refine that sketch through erasing, painting, and layering.

When did you first learn about Rainbow Six Siege?

TheKnightsStars: I had seen some of my favorite YouTubers play it and all I could think was "wow this game looks intense". When I asked if my friend group knew about Rainbow Six Siege they all said they had been playing since Black Ice. I bought Siege during White Noise and we have been playing together since!

Who is your favourite operator?

TheKnightsStars: I love all of the operators but if I had to choose, I'd say Bandit!

What do you like about drawing/creating Rainbow Six Siege art specifically? How did you develop your art style?

TheKnightsStars: I love the tactical poses, detailed gear, and the character of each operator. I enjoy drawing the operators in 'ready-for-battle' stances, but also in playful and relaxed situations. When I first started drawing Siege content, I cared a lot about getting every detail right, but over time I have loosened up and now care more about the impact of the whole image.

Which artwork are you most proud of?

TheKnightsStars: It would definitely be the Zombie Bandit portrait from Halloween 2018!

Tell us about your best Rainbow Six experience.

TheKnightsStars: Being invited to participate in Siegemas I feel was one of my best Rainbow Six Siege experiences. I was able to meet and get to know some really awesome artists!

What would you like for the future of the game?

TheKnightsStars: It would be awesome to see an event like Outbreak again! As for fan content, I think it would be cool to see some contests geared towards content creators.
