Pro League action continued this week, with the games being absolutely electrifying affairs. Here’s a recap of all of the action from last week.
North America (NA):
The night began with Evil Geniuses (EG) securing victory against Spacestation Gaming (SSG) with a dominant 6-2 score line, a somewhat unexpected margin when considering both teams had been on level points. Due to personal reasons, nvK was unable to play, resulting in Necrox being substituted in, but EG looked as strong as ever. Table toppers SK Gaming, however, dropped another two2 points for the second week in succession as they drew with mousesports. At the opposite end of the table, though, relegation candidates Obey Alliance and Cloud9 duked it out, with the former coming out on top by a slim two2-round margin. In the final game of the night, Rogue found themselves unable to shake off Noble eSports, with both teams coming away with one point apiece.
Week 9’s results end with SK Gaming hanging on to 1st place, but EG has pulled abreast in terms of points and is only behind due to a single point round difference. Rogue, though, with the singular point have found themselves in 3rd place, above SSG who drop to 4th. Finally, with their victory, Obey pulled ahead of C9 by a point. There are still five weeks of games to go, and when the points are this close, changes in the standings are still very much possible.
Next week, don’t miss SK Gaming going up against C9 in an attempt to arrest what seems to be a post-break slump, and catch 3rd-placed Rogue trying to shake off their 4th-placed neighbours SSG.
Latin America (LATAM):
Over in LATAM, FaZe Clan continued their winning ways with a fourth consecutive victory in the form of a 6-3 win over BootKamp Gaming. Black Dragons, meanwhile, raised a few eyebrows as they eked out a closely fought victory over paiN Gaming. However, Ninjas in Pyjamas (NiP) continued their unfortunate Season 8 streak as they dropped a vital two points against Team oNe in yet another draw. Team Liquid, however, returned to more familiar territory with a comfortable 6-2 victory over Immortals.
The results show FaZe Clan continuing to hold the 1st place they claimed last week, while Team oNe jumped ahead of Immortals into 3rd. In the relegation battle, NiP will rue their loss as the team is now two points behind Black Dragons in 7th place.
Coming up in Week 10, table leaders FaZe will strive to turn up the heat for NiP as the two clash, while Black Dragons will try to keep their upward momentum ongoing.
Europe (EU):
Rounding out the week were the EU games, which seemed to come in pairs. Powerhouse G2 Esports started with an unsurprising victory against Millenium, once again winning a map 6-2 -- a scoreline that numerically reflects the team’s name. Mock-it, too, won 6-2 against Supremacy, with the German squad showing signs of returning to their pre-Paris strength. On the other hand, the former Mock-it squad -- now PENTA Sports -- could only manage a draw against Chaos, with Team Secret also dropping 2 points against Team Vitality.
These results meant that the table did not shift too significantly, with G2 Esports and Team Secret remaining in 1st and 2nd place, respectively. However, Mock-it did leapfrog both PENTA Sports and Millenium to land at 3rd place, sending their rivals down into 4th and 5th place, respectively.
Week 10, though, promises games that are sure to be entertaining. The current top-2 teams of G2 and Secret go head-to-head for the third time, with both having won once at LAN -- the former at the Six Major Paris, and the latter at DreamHack Valencia. PENTA also goes up against Mock-it, with both teams vying to dethrone Secret from their Rio-bound 2nd place.
