Operation Velvet Shell Operator : Mira (Elena María Álvarez)

“For most people I’m a relief. But for you, I’ll be a nightmare.”

In Operation Velvet Shell, two G.E.O. Operators join Team Rainbow to protect civilians vacationing on the "Coastline," our new free map set in Ibiza, Spain. The local authorities request the assistance of the Spanish Grupo Especial de Operaciones (G.E.O.) to safeguard the perimeter after an anonymous tip. Following the tragic Munich 1972 Summer Olympics, the G.E.O. was founded in 1977 during Spain’s tumultuous transition to a democratic government.

Before we reveal the Operators’ unique ability during the Six Invitational, R6 Scriptwriter Farah Brixi offered us an early peek as to what inspired her character. Spain’s special operations forces take pride in preventing terrorist plots and neutralizing organized crime. “But they are also expert at providing protection for diplomatic personnel,” Brixi explained. “Álvarez has ample experience in physical defense as well as residential security for high profile ministers, visiting heads of state, and heads of government.”

Brixi then disclosed that for the start of Year Two, “Álvarez also offered a great opportunity to portray the growing interaction between different Operators, even when it is not agreeable. There are particular tension between her and some Rainbow Six Operators. One of them is Eliza Cohen who she met during Operation Blue Orion, which did not yield the anticipated results. Cohen and Álvarez have been brutal rivals on record ever since.”

The G.E.O. is known to represent a last front for the police force in Spain, and is often seen as the nation’s most lethal weapon. To embody this image, Álvarez is equipped with the Vector .45 ACP and ITA12L as primary weapons, as well as the ITA12S and USP 40 as secondary weapons.

Elena María Álvarez was born during Spain’s political shift. Being raised by her single father, she found purpose while working in the family business. It was in her father’s mechanics shop in Retiro, Madrid that Álvarez learned how to spot and fix mechanical defects on automobile engines.

After her high school graduation she kept working until she saw job opportunities opening up in the police force. Wanting to prove useful, she joined the Cuerpo Nacional de Policía when she turned 20. Her physical endurance set her apart on the field just as much as her skills for enhancing vehicles. A few years later, she passed the evaluations to become a G.E.O. officer and participated in several SWAT CQB competitions around the world.
