Operation Velvet Shell Operator: Jackal (Ryad Ramírez Al-Hassar)

“The steed, the night, and the desert all know me. Now, you will too.”

In Operation Velvet Shell, two G.E.O. Operators join Team Rainbow to protect civilians vacationing on the "Coastline," our new free map set in Ibiza, Spain. The local authorities request the assistance of the Spanish Grupo Especial de Operaciones (G.E.O.) to evacuate the perimeter after an anonymous tip. Influenced by the tragic Munich 1972 Summer Olympics, the G.E.O. was founded in 1977 during Spain’s tumultuous transition to a democratic government.

While the Operators’ unique ability will only be revealed during the Six Invitational, R6 Scriptwriter Farah Brixi revealed the elements that inspired Jackal’s persona. Brixi explained that their goal was to portray how Spain’s special operations assign a role to each officer that resonates with their personal assets and tactic of choice. “We created Jackal with that in mind, so that he would fully embody a specific playstyle. When you pick Jackal you are sending a clear message to the opposing team: now they’ve got a target on their back.”

The G.E.O. is known for preventing acts of terror, but also makes dent in drug trafficking rings. Brixi revealed that “You can expect Jackal to embody their resourcefulness in difficult terrains as his specialty lies in counter drug smuggling operations. He underwent extensive survival courses, tactical desert navigation programs, and specialized combat diving courses to gain this edge.”

To showcase the lethality of Spain’s Special Forces, Ramírez is equipped with the C7E and PDW9 as primary weapons, and the ITA 12S and USP 40 as secondary weapons.

Ryad Ramírez Al-Hassar was nine years old during Spain’s political transition, but did not feel the full the impact of these changes until later on. His focus was somewhere else entirely, as he was shifted from one dysfunctional family to the next. A few years later, Ramírez was taken out of the foster care system by his older brother, Faisal, who was now old enough to become his legal guardian.

The Ramírez brothers first appeared in official records on October 8th, 1985 when Ryad was found next to his brother’s dead body in an abandoned house in El Principe Alfonso. Ryad was 17 years old and required urgent medical assistance. With no witness, no murder weapon, and no clear motive, the local authorities treated Faisal’s death as an inconclusive case of street violence.

After that night, Ryad was determined to unravel the events that lead to the loss of his brother. When he turned 19, he finally passed the mandatory qualifications and entered the Cuerpo Nacional de Policía. To further hone his skills on the field, he became a member of the G.E.O.
